ChannelMetrics ("we", "our", "us") operates the ChannelMetrics platform, a YouTube creator intelligence and analytics service. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use our service.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 YouTube Data (Public)

We collect publicly available data from the YouTube Data API v3, including:

Channel information: channel name, description, subscriber count, total view count, video count, country, custom URL, channel creation date, and whether the channel is self-declared "Made for Kids"
Video information: video title, publish date, view count, like count, comment count, duration, and thumbnail URL
Historical snapshots: daily recordings of channel subscriber and view counts to track growth trends

All YouTube data we collect is publicly available through the YouTube platform. We do not access private or restricted YouTube data, and ChannelMetrics does not offer any YouTube account sign-in or OAuth connection.

1.2 Usage Data

Search queries performed on our platform
Pages and features accessed
Browser type, IP address, and device information (via server logs)

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to measure traffic to our site. It does not use cookies or any client-side storage and does not track you across other websites.

1.3 Internal Operational Data

We keep an internal operations log of our own scheduled data-collection jobs (e.g. when a refresh ran, how many records it touched) for reliability and debugging. This log contains no visitor information — only records about our own background jobs — and is capped to the most recent 50 entries.

2. How We Use Your Data

Analytics dashboards: To display channel statistics, growth trends, video performance, and rankings
Growth predictions: To generate forecasts and ML-based insights about channel trajectories
Related creators: To suggest similar channels based on category, country, and content
Historical tracking: To build growth timelines by saving periodic snapshots of public metrics
Service improvement: To improve our platform, fix bugs, and develop new features

3. Data Storage and Retention

3.1 Where We Store Data

Channel and video metadata: PostgreSQL database
Temporary cache: Redis (data expires automatically, TTL: 5 minutes to 24 hours)
All data is stored on servers we operate and control

3.2 How Long We Keep Data

Public YouTube data: Retained as long as the channel remains publicly available on YouTube. Updated regularly via our scheduled refresh jobs.
Historical snapshots: Automatically deleted after 400 days (roughly 13 months, enough to compare a full year of growth) and can also be deleted sooner on request.
Server logs: Retained for 90 days, then automatically deleted.

We do not sell, rent, or share YouTube data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

4. YouTube API Services

ChannelMetrics uses the YouTube Data API v3 to access publicly available YouTube data. Our use of YouTube API Services is subject to:

5. Your Rights and Choices

5.1 Data Deletion

You have the right to request deletion of any data associated with your use of ChannelMetrics. To request data deletion:

Submit your request through our contact form
Specify which data you want deleted (channel data, search history, account data)
We will process your request within 30 days

Contact form submissions are delivered to our team via a private Discord notification channel — the message content you submit (and any contact details you choose to include) is sent to Discord for that purpose.

5.2 Opt Out

If you are a YouTube channel owner and do not want your publicly available channel data displayed on ChannelMetrics, contact us through our contact form and we will remove your channel from our database within 7 business days.

6. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including:

Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
Database access controls and authentication
Regular security updates and patches
API key rotation and secure credential management

7. Cookies and Local Storage

ChannelMetrics uses browser local storage only to remember your display preferences (such as dark mode). We do not use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking.

8. Children's Privacy

ChannelMetrics is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Where a tracked channel is self-declared by its owner to YouTube as "Made for Kids," we display that status rather than collect any additional data about it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of ChannelMetrics after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
